Women's awards

On Feb. 9, 12 awards will be made to outstanding Rice women at the Women's Resource Center Grand Opening.

The breakdown was originally as follows -- one student from each residential college, one graduate student, one alumna, one faculty member and one staff member.

After complaints were filed by some graduate students regarding the disproportionate conferring of awards between undergraduate students and graduate students, Student Center Assistant Director for Programs Mona Hicks decided that three graduate students would be selected to the Outstanding Rice Women Profile.

"We tried to make it somewhat proportional to enrollment. Selection will be based upon the criteria met by each woman nominated. "Thus, more specifically pertaining to undergrads, not all women from each college may be selected," Hicks said.
