LETTER: RPC will use our tax dollars to throw Christmas party for itself
I was happy to hear that the Rice Program Council is throwing a Christmas party this year.
I thought to myself, "My blanket tax dollars are hard at work," and I looked forward to consuming tasty food and beverages and generally wasting time in the name of holiday cheer.
You can imagine my dismay when I was informed that I wasn't invited to this event.
The good news is that I wasn't singled out; the entire student body has been specifically excluded.
To add insult to injury, the RPC decided not only to exclude the students, but also to charge them for the party.
A source high in the RPC, who spoke on the condition that he not be named, informed me that the students' blanket tax dollars would be spent on the party.
I could understand the RPC having a private party if they all chipped in -- but dipping into the fund intended for providing activities for students without inviting the students seems to me to be a blatant misuse of funds.
I have nothing against Christ- mas parties, the RPC or even Ryan Levy. I'm just sick of picking up the tab.
