FRIDAY, JANUARY 26

* Still ironing out your schedule? The deadline for adding or dropping courses for free is 5 p.m.

* Baker College has its college night, "Cartoon Express." Dress up like your favorite cartoon character. 5:30 p.m. in the Baker Commons.

* Will Rice College hosts a TG from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Kick off the weekend with free food, beer and drinks at the Will Rice Patio.

* The women's swimming team takes on the University of Houston in the Rice Pool at 7 p.m.

* The Rice Media Center shows The Early Clowns I: Love and Marriage . This compilation of comedy shorts includes material by Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy and more. 7:30 p.m. Stay for Tillie's Punctured Romance , a Chaplin flick. $3.50 with a student ID for either or both films.

* The Museum of Fine Arts presents Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter , which Gene Siskel describes as "the best film about Alzheimer's disease." At 8 p.m. $4 with a student ID.

* The Houston Bioethics Network together with the Rice Department of Religious Studies presents five speakers at Farnsworth Pavilion in the Student Center to discuss emergency room ethics. Among the topics to be discussed are patient dumping, self-abusive patients and maintaining professional integrity. $12 for students, $35 for non-students. 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 27

* It's the closest thing to Vegas that you'll find on campus - it's Lovett's Return of Atlantis Casino Party, complete with poker, blackjack, craps and more. Beer, mixed drinks, chips and soda. DJ in the Lovett Commons and prizes, including Rondolet tickets and a trip for two to New Orleans. 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Lovett Commons.

* Habitat for Humanity holds an informational meeting in Miner Lounge at 7 p.m.

* Today is your last chance to submit work for publication in University Blue , Rice's literary magazine for student poetry, prose, photography and art. Cash prizes awarded to the best entry in each category. Place submissions in envelopes at the college offices, the CoffeeHouse, Fondren Library and the offices of the Architecture, English and Art departments.

* Rice Rugby takes on the Louisiana State University Tigers at 2 p.m. in the Rice Rugby Field.

* The Houston Rockets battle the Detroit Pistons at the Summit. 7:30 p.m. For more info., call 629-3700.

* If you're in the mood for love, the Rice Media Center has two French romances that are perfect for you. Louis Malle's The Lovers ( Les Amants ) at 7:30 p.m. and Murmur of the Heart ( Le Soufflé au Coeur ) at 9:30 p.m. cost $3.50 with a student ID. (Same price for one or both films.)

* Widely regarded as a cinematic classic, The Seventh Seal raises some of the most fundamental questions of human life. At the Museum of Fine Arts. 7:30 p.m. Also, stay for The Magician , which plays at 9:15 p.m. $4 for both films with a student ID.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 28

* Roots and Wings consists of three films which examine musical groups formed by women. Mikime Mama , The Song is Free and Mother Come from Ireland? are played back-to-back at the Rice Media Center at 7:30 p.m. $3.50 with a student ID for one or both films.

* The Museum of Fine Arts presents Only a Mother at 7 p.m. $4 with a student ID.

MONDAY, JANUARY 29

* The Student Association meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Kelley Lounge in the Student Center.

* Time is running out to update your resumé in the '95 - '96 Career Services Resumé Book. The deadline for submission of revised resumés is 5 p.m. The summer job resumé book will also quit accepting submissions after 5 p.m.

* Men's basketball takes on Southern University at Autry Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 30

* The Rice Program Council meets at 9 p.m. in Miner Lounge in the Student Center.

* If you think you have what it takes to make people laugh, come and find out what Spontaneous Combustion is all about. Auditions for this improvisational comedy troupe begins in the Brown Commons at 7:30 p.m.

* The Houston Rockets play the Chicago Bulls at the Summit. Tip-off for this sold-out game is 7 p.m.

* The Shepherd School of Music's guest recital features John Thorne on flute and Scott Holhouser on piano and harpsichord. At 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall. Free.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31

* Shaky about your interviewing skills? Or perhaps you'd like to be extra-sharp for the corporate world? A panel of employers will share interviewing techniques that really work. In the Career Services Center from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

* Learn about the many prolific writers affiliated with our university. Friends of Fondren Library present Rice Authors, honoring faculty, staff, alumni and members of the Friends who had their books published in 1995. The tribute starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Student Center.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1

* The cut-off for master's degree petitions (thesis programs), as well as petitions and certification forms for master's degrees without thesis, is 5 p.m. Turn in forms to the Office of Graduate Studies.

* The Shepherd School Opera presents an evening of scenes from opera and musical comedy, including excerpts from The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables . 7:30 p.m. in Wortham Opera Theatre. Free.

* Geoff Brown -- a comedian who has been on HBO, Apollo, Star Search and the Laugh Stop -- will provide comic relief in the Grand Hall at 9 p.m.
