SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Men's volleyball team ready for SIVA to start Saturday
The men's volleyball spring tournament season started last Saturday at Southwest Texas State University.
The Rice A team made it to the playoffs with a 4-2 record, beating Trinity University and Tomball College.
In the playoff match against Texas, despite strong performances by seniors Gary Patterson and Chris Kwoh, the Longhorns upset Rice in three games, putting their record at 5-4 for the tournament.
The Rice B team had a good day as well, forcing a third game out of the University of North Texas before losing to them in the consolation round.
The A team is preparing itself for its Southern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association schedule this spring, where they will strive to reach nationals in Toledo, Ohio.
They have made it to nationals the past two years, placing fourth last year.
Their SIVA schedule will start next Saturday as they travel to Waco to play Baylor University and Howard Payne University.
The B team will continue playing as well, as they will be attending tournaments regularly throughout the spring term.
