SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Men's tennis to host Texas-San Antonio tomorrow

The men's tennis team played a practice match against the University of Texas at Tyler at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium this past weekend.

The men showed a solid improvement over last year's performance against this same team.

They dropped only one match. Highlights included the straight set singles wins of seniors Jon Elsberry, Shaheen Ladhani and freshman Robert Collins. The Rice men had a flawless doubles run.

The team is still without the services of sophomore Shane Stone, who is recovering from a foot injury which was recently operated on. The coaching staff anticipates his return to match play sometime in late February or early March.

The team plays its next match tomorrow when it takes on the University of Texas at San Antonio at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
