Mellon Undergraduate Minority Fellowship
The Mellon Foundation awards fellowships to eight to 10 under-represented minority students who, for two years, take on a mentor in their area of study.
Recipients also receive a stipend from the Mellon Foundation which allows them to go to school without having to take up jobs.
"And with a faculty mentor, the student not only gains useful knowledge and experience, but gains useful insights as to what it takes to be a minority in the academic community," Will Rice College senior Chris McKenzie said.
"The program got its start at Rice a few years ago, and now, the time is nearing for us to select the next crop of Mellon Scholars," McKenzie said.
