Pass/Fail conversion deadline extended
The University Council last week approved the extension of the pass/fail conversion deadline from the previous semester to the end of the fifth week of classes.
The deadline for converting to a grade used to be the end of the first week of classes in the spring for fall courses and early June for spring courses.
The original deadlines proved awkward for both students and the Registrar's Office, according to James Williamson, the university registrar.
"It was mostly a matter of inconvenience both for students and my office, and that's what led to the change," Williamson said.
Accordingly, the Committee on Examinations and Standings and the Committee on the Undergraduate Curriculum recommended that these deadlines be changed to the "incomplete" deadline, which falls at the end of the fifth week of classes.
The change takes effect immediately. EX&S is accepting petitions for the conversion of pass/fail classes to grades. The deadline for accepting petitions is today.
This change has no bearing on the Student Association proposal to extend the deadline to designate classes pass/fail to the 10th week of classes.
