Rice Math Tournament

The Rice Math Tournament will be taking place on campus tomorrow. Approximately 315 high school students from 26 schools in Texas and Louisiana will be participating in various mathematical events. Rice students organized the tournament and wrote the tests.

The tournament has been held at Rice almost every year since 1981.

Vice President for Student Affairs Zenaido Camacho will be among the hosts welcoming the participants to the tournament.

Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. at Hamman Hall. It will be followed by events in categories including algebra, trigonometry, geometry and calculus. Math Professor Frank Jones will give a talk on spherical trigonometry at 3:30 p.m.

"Last year's tournament was very successful, and we have more than twice as many schools coming this year," Tournament Director and Hanszen College junior Noah Rosenberg said.

More information about the tournament is available at: http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~noahr/RMT.html .
