SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Volleyball B-team makes it to semifinals in tournament

The men's B-team won their first two matches of the season and made it into the semifinals in their National Volleyball Association's Tournament last weekend.

They defeated two local men's clubs and split with Club Texas before they were ousted in the semifinals by The Jester's, another local club.

"We established a strong middle early with quick sets to Jeff Mercer and Dan McCulley which allowed us to run some plays from both sides and control the momentum of the games," setter Kevin Rennie said.

This semester, the B-team's play has picked up as the newcomers such as freshman Mica Gonzales shine through and elevate the rest of the team to a higher level of play.

The A-team got three weekends off and will play again Feb. 23 against the University of Texas and Trinity University at University of Texas.

Their tournament Feb. 2 was cancelled due to the ice storm.
