The Owls were tied with the University of Tennesse for second place going into the third and final round. However, the Volunteers shot a three-under-par 285 to bump San Jose State University from first place.

A third-round score of 282 boosted Stephen F. Austin State University from seventh to second place.

The Owls finished tied with San Jose State for third place, five strokes behind Tennessee.

The top Rice finisher was junior John Lawrence. His three-round scores were 71-71-74 on the par-72 course. His total of 216 placed him ninth overall.

Junior Tim Carlson finished just behind Lawrence with a 217, tying him for 11th place.

Sophomore Kalani Kiaaina, junior Jim Duke and senior David Lawrence rounded out Rice's top five with scores of 221, 226 and 230, respectively.

The next tournament begins today when the Owls tee off at the Taylor Made Intercollegiate held in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii.
