* The Office of Academic Advising hosts Majors Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Center Grand Hall. Representatives from all majors will be available to answer questions about declaring a major. Refreshments will be provided. For more info., call 527-4060.
* Usher in the Year of the Rat with cultural food, games and performances at the 2nd Annual Lunar New Year. Here's your chance to see a Tai Chi performance, a Kung Fu demonstration and silver plate dancing. There will also be a fashion show, the Rice Student Dragon Dancers and keynote speaker City Councilwoman Martha Wong. Free. * Archi-Arts "Lite" will take place at Autry House from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. It costs $10 per person or $15 per couple -- so find yourself a date, baby, and split the $5 profit on a bag of Doritos from Sammy's. Tickets for the dance can be purchased from freshman architecture students.
* Come cheer for the women's tennis team when they take on Northeast Louisiana at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. 1:30 p.m.
* See the baseball team pit their talents against those of the University of Texas at San Antonio. 4:30 p.m. in Cameron Court.
* The Houston Aeros take on Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at the Summit.
* Hoop Dreams is playing at the Museum of Fine Arts at 7:30 p.m. This remarkable documentary about the experiences of two African-American teenage basketball stars has pleased critics and audiences alike. $4 with a student ID.
* The Long Day Closes and Bhaji at the Beach are playing at the Rice Media Center at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. $3.50 for one or both films with a student ID.
* Tonight's your last chance to see Rice Dance Theatre's "Synaptic Misfires and Other Stories." It's in Harjo Dance Studio on the first floor of Autry Court at 8 p.m. Costs $5 for students and $7 for the public.
* "Mass Media and Transnational Subjectivity in Shanghai," a lecture by anthropologist Mayfair Mei-hui Yang from the University of California at Santa Barbara, includes video footage. 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. in Rayzor Hall, Room 110. Sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the Asian Studies program.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24
* "Satellite Sid," Sid Richardson College's Tower Party, hosts seven floors of channel-surfing nirvana. The first floor, for example, is TNN and features kicker dancing and Airband. There's a floor for everyone. The fun starts at 10 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. Enjoy drinks by Fitzgerald's, beer, soda and more. The cost is $4 for Rice students, $8 for others.
* The men's tennis team plays Northeast Louisiana at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. 1:30 p.m.
* Watch the baseball team take on Louisville at Cameron Court at 1 p.m.
* The Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers will battle it out in the Summit at 7:30 p.m.
* Burnt Toast is playing at Fitzgerald's (on White Oak off Studemont past I-10) with the Suspects. 10 p.m. The cost is $4.
* A Louis Malle double-feature shows at the Rice Media Center. The first film, Atlantic City , starts at 7:30 p.m. The second, Alamo Bay , begins at 9 p.m. $3.50 for one or both films with a student ID.
* An overview of alternative conflict resolution methods and basic mediation skills will be presented at Miner Lounge in the Student Center. 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Sponsored by LEGALEASE.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25
* In celebration of Black History Month, the Rice Black Student Association invites you to Farnsworth Pavilion in the Student Center to partake in its Black Cuisine Dinner. The cost is $2 for students and $1 for BSA members. 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
* Come see performances by Rice students at this year's India Night in Hamman Hall. The theme is "Bollywood," and a dinner of Indian cuisine will follow the show in the Grand Hall of the Student Center. 5:30 p.m. The cost is $8. Sponsored by ISAR and SAS.
* Watch the women's tennis team play Texas A&M at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
* The men's baseball team takes on Lamar at 3:30 p.m. at Cameron Court.
* The Friends of Fondren Library and the Shepherd Society invite you to "Schubertiad," an afternoon of 19th-century music presented by the Shepherd School. 3 p.m. at Duncan Recital Hall in Alice Pratt Brown Hall. Reception following the program. For more info., call 285-5157.
* A faculty recital, featuring David Kirk on tuba and pianist Donald Doucet, begins at 6 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall. Free.
* The Shepherd Singers, guided by conductor Hyun Kwan Chung, perform at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.
* As part of its Pan-Cultural Film Festival, the Rice Media Center is showing Hyenas at 11 a.m. and Tamango at 7 p.m. $3.50 with a student ID for one or both films.

* As part of Unity Through Diversity Week, the World Religions Roundtable will be held at 9 p.m. at the CoffeeHouse.
* Pianist Robert Roux gives a faculty recital at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall. Free.
* For Unity Through Diversity Week, HACER presents a video, Mi familia . Farnsworth Pavilion in the Student Center. 8 p.m.
* The Archaeological Institute of America presents "The Portland Vase," a lecture by Dr. David Whitehouse. At 8 p.m. in Sewall Hall, Room 309. Free and open to the public. A no-host pre-lecture dinner at Cafe Noche (2409 Montrose) starts at 6 p.m.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27
* Get a taste for the Middle East without even setting foot off campus. The Global Gourmet with Dr. Bob Sanborn features a Middle Eastern food buffet. It begins in Farnsworth Pavilion in the Student Center at noon and costs $3.
* Common Notions, an evening of poetry, prose and music, starts at 9 p.m. at the CoffeeHouse. Free.

* The Houston Rockets take on the Toronto Raptors at the Summit. The action starts at 7:30 p.m.
* "The MBA: When, Where and Why." If you're thinking about going to business school, then come to Sewall Hall, Room 303 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for some helpful answers.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28
* The Brown Bag Lunch Concert is in Kelley Lounge in the Student Center. It costs $3. Sponsored by SCAB.
* The Fondren Library and the Humanities Computing Team celebrate the opening of the Electronic Text and Image Center in Fondren Library, Room 616. 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Free.

* British actress and activist Vanessa Redgrave will present her film, Letter from New York to Sarajevo , at the Rice Media Center at 7:30 p.m. Free.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 29

* For Unity Through Diversity Week, PRIDE will show Paris Is Burning and The Wedding Banquet. 7 p.m. in Farnsworth Pavilion in the Student Center.
* Shared Rice , a camcorder video of shared Rice student life, airs at 9 p.m. at the CoffeeHouse.
* Judith K. Schafer, Tulane University legal historian, will give Rice University's Harold and Margaret Rorschach Lecture in Legal History, "`A House Divided': Emancipation in Louisiana in the decade before the Civil War." It begins at 7:30 p.m. in Sewall Hall, Room 301.
