SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Lacrosse defeats Sam Houston and Metro Men

The Lacrosse team improved its record to 5-1 on the season with victories over Sam Houston State University and the Metro Men's Club.

In Huntsville on Saturday, the team blew out the Bearkats 27-1. Andy Dolan led the team with seven goals and six assists.

"We beat Sam Houston to most of the ground balls with pure hustle from our entire team, and the fast break passes were crisp," captain Joey Olivier said.

On Sunday, the team hosted Metro and beat them 9-7. The team was down 4-2 at halftime but wore down their opponents in the second half. The team capitalized on two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties by scoring two goals.

In the game, freshman midfielder Jack Gur had to leave the game after a tough hit.

Tests at Park Plaza Hospital reveled he had suffered a ruptured spleen and would require surgery.

The team's next game is March 23 when they host Texas A&M University. The game will determine if the team will make the playoffs.
