NEWS IN BRIEF: Buses broken down

by Peggy Lai

Three of Rice's fleet of four shuttlebuses have broken down.

According to Transportation Manager Eugen Radulescu, a van has been rented for the past month and is currently running the Graduate House route.

All of the buses were sent to the shop for major repairs.

One shuttlebus has engine problems, the other has trouble with the front axle and the third is getting its brakes fixed.

To speed up the repair process, the buses have been sent to three different shops.

One bus was returned on Wednesday, while the other two are projected to be returned before Friday.

The van will be kept for the time being in the event of further breakdowns.

Two new shuttlebuses have been ordered already, and Radulescu will go to Detroit next week to finalize the terms of the agreement. The new buses will be driven down to Houston, where they will be checked again before joining Rice's fleet.
