LETTER: Complete results of recent survey of Rice honor system available to public
To the editor:
An article ("Cheating on a decline") in the March 22 issue of the Thresher cited data collected by Professor McCabe of Rutgers in 1990 and again in 1995 on the prevalence of cheating in schools with and without honor codes.
In both studies, it was clear that schools with honor codes have much less cheating than schools without honor codes.
Even though the data for Rice University were impressive in 1990, the 1995 data were even more impressive.
The Thresher article reported a small fraction of the results; members of the Rice community who would like to see the complete results of the studies are welcome to come by my office.
I am very proud to know that the students of this university continue to support the honor system and to uphold Rice's long tradition of academic integrity.
Sarah Burnett
Dean of Students
