FRIDAY, APRIL 12

* Drop by Jamfest '96, also known as Wiess-stock. Festivities include a full day of music by Burnt Toast, the Freshmakers and other live bands. There will also be free beer and food. T-shirt dyeing and communing with nature are also included on the agenda. At the Wiess College acabowl from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

* It's Hanszen College Night.

* The Leadership Symposium will run from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Student Center. Seminars targeted at student organizations will include topics like publicity, finances and organizing. No registration needed. Sponsored by the Inter-Club Council.

* Come root for the baseball team when they take on Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. at Cameron Field.

* Angleton Grill will be performed at Hamman Hall at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $5 with a student ID. For more info., call 527-4027.

* Schola Pastoris, a Shepherd School early music ensemble directed by Michael Hammond, will play at 8 p.m. in Alice Pratt Brown Hall. Come hear Renaissance dance music and madrigals.

* The Early Clowns: Back Stage , a compilation of classic comic shorts, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Rice Media Center. Stay for Sherlock Jr. , a Buster Keaton film, at 9:15 p.m. Admission is $3.50 for one or both films with a student ID.

* Shadows , narrated by Jack Kerouac and featuring a cast of Beat poets, begins at 8 p.m. in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Tickets cost $4 with a student ID.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13

* Bacchanalia is here. The theme is Antony and Cleopatra, so wear a toga. Live music by DaHebeGebes and Boxcar Prophets. Sip on beer, wine, punch, nonalcoholic cider and soft drinks, and dine on bread, cheese and grapes. The party runs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Brown College Commons.

* Culture Quest, a cultural scavenger hunt and international food fest, begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall. Learn about places in Houston you never knew existed. Prizes will be awarded to winning scavenger hunt teams. Admission, which is $2 per person, includes participation costs, food and a T-shirt. Sign up in foursomes at Career Services. Sponsored by ADVANCE.

* Come watch the baseball team play against Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m. at Cameron Field.

* The Houston Rockets take on the Dallas Mavericks at 2:30 p.m. at the Summit.

* A special matinee performance of Angleton Grill starts at 2:30 p.m. Stay afterward for free pizza and drinks in the lobby at Hamman Hall. Angelton Grill will be performed again at 8 p.m.

* The KTRU Fifth Annual Free Outdoor Concert will feature a variety of artists, including Kathy McCarty, Arthur Doyle, Furry Things, Soumitra Lahiri, Project Grimm and more. From noon to 7:30 p.m., south of the MOB Field.

* Shepherd Singers, Sallyport and guest ensemble University of Houston Concert Chorale will perform works by Debussy, Brahms and more in Stude Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Free.

* May Fools , a Louis Malle film set during the French political crisis of May 1968, plays at 7:30 p.m. and again at 9:30 p.m. It costs $3.50 with a student ID.

* Shadow plays again at the Museum of Fine Arts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $4 with a student ID.

SUNDAY, APRIL 14

* The men's tennis team battles it out against the University of Texas at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium at 1:30 p.m.

* Hear the Campanile Orchestra, conducted by Scott O'Neil, perform at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

* Women Make Music IV: Composed Women shows at 7:30 p.m. at the Rice Media Center. It costs $3.50 with a student ID.

MONDAY, APRIL 15

* Undergraduate students begin self scheduling their final exams today.

* Do you inhale your bangs with each breath? Come to the Grand Hall Lobby for Barber Day. A haircut costs $5. Sponsored by SCAB.

* The SA meeting begins at 10 p.m. in Kelley Lounge in the Student Center.

* A three-day car show starts today in the Grand Hall of the Student Center. Drop by and drool over shiny new cars. It's free -- to look, that is.

* The Houston Rockets play the Seattle Supersonics at 7:30 p.m. at the Summit.

TUESDAY, APRIL 16

* The RPC calendar meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Kelley Lounge in the Student Center.

* The weekly RPC meeting starts at 9 p.m. in Miner Lounge in the Student Center.

* SYZYGY, New Music at Rice, starts at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. The concert will include works by Paul Cooper in commemoration of his 70th birthday. Free.

* Jean Bethke Elshtain, as part of the university's spring colloquium, "Approaching the Millennium: Technologies, Communities, His-tories," gives a lecture, "Between Past and Future: Democracy on Trial" at 4 p.m. in the Kyle Morrow Room of Fondren Library. A wine and cheese reception will follow.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17

* It's the last day for undergraduate students to self schedule final exams.

* Representatives from the Drug Policy Forum of Texas will talk about how to reform federal drug laws. They'll also answer questions. In Miner Lounge in the Student Center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

* The car show comes to a close today in the Grand Hall of the Student Center.

* Scruples auditions begin in the Lovett College Commons at 7:30 p.m. For more info., call 285-5194.

THURSDAY, APRIL 18

* Owl Day begins.

* Rice Fest, an annual gathering, gives Rice faculty and staff the chance to meet representatives from various companies. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center. All faculty invited.

* Scruples auditions continue at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown College Commons.

* Comedian Pat Godwin provides free comic relief for stressed-out students and Owls at 9 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Student Center.
