FRIDAY, APRIL 26

* Woo hoo. It's the last day of classes. However, before you start giggling maniacally and hugging your professors, remember that finals aren't over yet.

* Advanced degree candidates need to have taken their oral exams by today for spring graduation.

* Celebrate the end of classes at Hanszen's "Temple of Boom" Tower Party. It runs from 10 p.m to 2 a.m. in the Hanszen College Tower, Quad and Commons. Come enjoy great music and free beer, soda and snacks.

* Come root for the baseball team when they take on Baylor University at 7 p.m. at Cameron Field.

* The Southwest Conference Golf Championships start in West Columbia.

* The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Larry Rachleff, performs at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

* The Early Clowns IV: The Pio-neers is a compilation of comedy shorts by such artists as W.C. Fields and Buster Keaton. It plays at 7:30 p.m. in the Rice Media Center. Later, see The Gold Rush , a Charlie Chaplin comedy, at 9:15 p.m. Admission is $3.50 with a student ID for one or both films.

* Touki Bouki , a groundbreaking classic of early African cinema, is a bittersweet adventure which follows a renegade young couple through a cross-section of Dakar society. It plays at 8 p.m. at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Stay for Le Franc , an impressionistic view of contemporary Senegalese life which earned the top prize at Africa's major film festival. Tickets cost $4 for one or both films with a student ID.

SATURDAY, APRIL 27

* Final exams for degree candidates begin, continuing through May 2.

* Come watch the baseball team play Baylor University at noon at Cameron Field.

* The SWC Golf Championships continue at West Columbia.

* Vanya on 42nd Street , a Louis Malle film, plays at 7:30 p.m. and again at 9:45 p.m. at the Rice Media Center. Tickets cost $3.50 with a student ID.

* Blue Eyes of Yonta is a delicate work about youthful illusions, both personal and national. This film demonstrates how alike we all are in matters of the heart. It's shown with Women with Open Eyes , a documentary that profiles con-temporary women in Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal and Benin. The movies start at 7:30 p.m. at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Tickets cost $4 with a student ID.

SUNDAY, APRIL 28

* The baseball team pits its talents against Baylor University's for the third and final time this week. 2 p.m. at Cameron Field.

* The SWC Golf Championships round up today at West Columbia. All day.

* International Tournée of Iranian Short Films , a collection including Peaceful Sabbath , Treason and He and She , shows at the Rice Media Center at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $4 with a student ID

* Wend Kuuni , a film rich with the rhythms of African storytelling, brings an ancient fable from Burkina Faso to life. In the story, an orphan driven from his homeland is renamed Wend Kuuni ("God's Gift") by the grateful village that adopts him. At 7 p.m. at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Admission is $4 with a student ID.

MONDAY, APRIL 29

* Happy Monday, kids. I'm sure you're all happy and cheerful after a restful weekend. (Send death threats to thresher@rice.edu. )

TUESDAY, APRIL 30

* Come support the Astros when they take on the Atlanta Braves at the Astrodome at 7:05 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1

* "May Day. May Day. ... Do you read me?"

* Final exams begin for non-degree candidate students and continue through May 8.

* How often do you get to sit in big dome-shaped rooms? If you answered, "Not nearly enough," see the Houston Astros play the Atlanta Braves at 7:05 p.m. in the Astrodome.

THURSDAY, MAY 2

* The finals frenzy for non-degree candidates continues. Go get yourself a cup of java at the CoffeeHouse -- it's going to be a long night.

* Final examinations for all degree candidates must be completed by noon today.
