BEYOND THE HEDGES: `Playboy' magazine's '96 College Sex Survey unveiled
The survey, conducted by Marty Klein and James R. Peterson, was designed to solicit unguarded answers about fantasies, emotions, public sex, masturbation, one-night stands, orgasm, oral sex and condoms; it will appear in the October issue.
According to the survey, 57 percent of men and 71 percent of women said they had just one sexual partner in the past school year, and about one-third of both groups admitted to having sex with someone other than their steady partner.
Over one-third of both male and female respondents have been tested for HIV. However, 66 percent of the women and 49 percent of the men claimed that if AIDS disappeared overnight, their sex lives would not change.
To test the effectiveness of "conduct codes" which ban intimate relationships between students and teachers, Playboy asked students if they had ever had sex with an "authority figure." Sixteen percent of the men and nine percent of the women admitted that they had; more than half of the men and 40 percent of the women said they had flirted with an "authority figure" at least once.
The survey was compiled from responses from more than 1,000 students who completed a 152-item survey that was not identified as a Playboy project. The University of Texas at Austin was one of 12 schools included in the survey.
