SPORTS NOTEBOOK: Basketball players compete on an international level


Shaun Igo, a 6-11 senior who averaged 16.0 points and 8.8 rebounds for the Owls last year, was selected for a National Invitational Tournament all-star team.

The team, coached by Hall of Famer Lou Carnesseca, also includes Alabama's Eric Washington and St. John's Felipe Lopez.

Guards Bobby Crawford and J.J. Polk were members of the U.S. Select Team.

Polk averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds last season for Rice. Crawford sat 1995-96 out as a transfer student from the University of Michigan.
