LETTER: PRIDE invites Rice to support group
Our ever-changing society has experienced an increasingly open dialogue regarding issues of sexuality in recent years, and Rice is no exception to this trend.
More and more people at Rice are coming out as part of a growing gay, lesbian and bisexual population of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff.
Often, however, these people feel no connection as a group and sometimes worry about the environment on campus.
This letter is an open invitation for these students, faculty and staff to come together in a non-judgmental setting over dinner on Sunday evenings this year.
The purpose of these dinners is to provide a supportive social environment for an ever-growing group within the Rice community. Those who are not yet aware of the gay and lesbian community at Rice are strongly encouraged to attend, and all participants are asked to respect the privacy of others outside the group setting.
Also, anyone questioning their sexuality and seeking support or discussion should feel welcome. The group will meet every Sunday this semester at 5:30 p.m. at the circle drive in front of the Rice Memorial Center. Directions will be provided and rides will be available for those without transportation.
This week we'll be having a potluck off-campus, so please bring something to share with others, even if it's just something to drink. Also, if you're coming and can drive, please bring your car.
Finally, a group will stop by a grocery store on the way in case you need to pick something up at that point.
Please contact one of us with questions and we look forward to seeing you Sunday.
