BEYOND THE HEDGES: SUNY students end six-day sit-in, meet with president
The protesters, mostly minority students, accused the student government's executive board, all of whom are white men, of disregarding SUNY's affirmative action policy.
The students were especially angered by the board's decision to drop the government's post of vice-president for multicultural affairs.
The protesters have demanded that officials freeze the group's funds until a new board is formed. Board members, who oppose affirmative action, have defended their right to keep their posts.
The protesters ended their protest after the president of the university agreed to meet with them to discuss their concerns.
