FRIDAY, DEC. 6

* Care to tango, tap, two-step or twist? A semi-formal dance with a showcase runs from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Student Center with a party to follow from 10:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. Free. Sponsored by the Rice Ballroom Dance Society and RPC.

* The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra performs pieces like Beethoven's "Eroica" at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

* Alien , a terrifying film epic set in the depths of outer space, plays at 7:30 p.m. and again at 9:45 p.m. at the Rice Media Center. The cost is $3.50 with a student ID, $4.50 otherwise.

* The English Department presents a poetry reading by Professor Susan Wood at 5 p.m. in Rayzor Hall, Room 110.

SATURDAY, DEC. 7

* Come and show your support for the women's basketball team when it takes on Alcorn State University at 6 p.m. at Autry Court.

* A program of Christmas music, put on by the Rice Chorale, Shepherd Singers and the Shepherd School Brass Ensemble, begins at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

* How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck? , an off-the-beaten track look at language, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Rice Media Center. Stay for Burden of Dreams , which starts at 8:15 p.m. Admission for one or both films is $3.50 with a student ID.

SUNDAY, DEC. 8

* Get some culture. Come to the Mixteco Ballet Folklorico's fourth annual "Fiesta Folklorica" from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hammond Hall. Student admission is $3. Sponsored by HACER.

* The women's basketball team plays the University of Montana or the University of Colorado at Autry Court at 2 p.m. or 4 p.m., depending on who wins Saturday's Rice Classic tournament games.

* The Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra performs pieces by Schubert, Tartini and more at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

* King Lear plays at 7:30 p.m. at the Rice Media Center. Tickets cost $3.50 with a student ID.

MONDAY, DEC. 9

* The RSVP meeting begins at 9 p.m. in Miner Lounge in the Student Center.

* A Shepherd School recital of chamber music begins at 6:30 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall. Free.

* Come and hear the Campanile Orchestra perform at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

* The Brazos Bookstore and the Rice School of Architecture host a reception honoring Carlos Jiménez for the publication of his new monograph, Carlos Jiménez: Buildings at 7 p.m. at Brazos Bookstore (2421 Bissonnet St.).

TUESDAY, DEC. 10

* The Rice Chorale, Shepherd Singers, members of the Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra and Shepherd School vocal soloists perform Handel's "Messiah" at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 11

* Today is the last day of classes. Time to quit worrying about making it to lecture and start worrying about your finals. Just remember: In two weeks, it will all be over.

* Distribution of the '96 Campanile runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Location to be announced.

* A recital of chamber music featuring Shepherd School students starts at 8 p.m. in Duncan Recital Hall. Free.

THURSDAY, DEC. 12

* Stressed out? Need a study break? Come to the Finals Frenzy from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. in front of the CoffeeHouse in the Student Center for free fruit, bagels and massages. Sponsored by SCAB.
