* The deadline for the resolution of last semester's grades has arrived.
* Kick off the new semester right. The first party of '97 runs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Wiess College Commons. Come for free beer and snacks; stay for great music.
* Let the Career Services Center help you land that perfect summer job. If you don't want to be flipping burgers in the July heat, register at the CSC office on the third floor of the Student Center to take part in the Summer Job Program. Today is the registration deadline if you want to be apply for the first round of summer job resumé drops.
SATURDAY, JAN. 18
* Show your support for the men's basketball team when it takes on the University of New Mexico Lobos at 7:35 p.m. at Autry Court. Free.
* Ready for some great music? The Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Larry Rachleff, will perform works by Beethoven and Hindemith at 8 p.m. in Stude Concert Hall. Free.
SUNDAY, JAN. 19
* The Museum of Fine Arts shows the film Orson Welles: The One-Man Band , a must-see for Welles fans and film lovers alike. It starts at 7 p.m. at the museum (1001 Bissonnet), and admission is $5. Plus, get a $1 discount with your student ID.
MONDAY, JAN. 20
* It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day. That means no classes. So enjoy the extra-long weekend, but take some time out to remember the contributions of the noble pioneer of civil rights.
* The Black Student Association invites everyone to its Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration. It begins at 7 p.m. at Willy's statue with a candlelight vigil and remarks by President Malcolm Gillis and BSA President Jermaine Gibbs. This will be followed by a procession to the Rice Memorial Chapel for a 7:30 p.m. program featuring as keynote speaker the Rev. Dr. Bill Lawson. A concluding reception will be held at 9 p.m. in the Kelley Lounge of the Student Center.
* The SA meets at 10 p.m. in the Hanszen College Commons in the Hanszen Loft.
* The RSVP meeting starts at 9 p.m. in Miner Lounge in the Student Center.
TUESDAY, JAN. 21
* An InterClub Council lunch meeting on motivation begins at noon in Miner Lounge in the Student Center. Bring your own food and ideas. They'll take care of the beverages.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 22
* A seminar in which a tax attorney teaches tips on preparing annual income tax return runs from noon to 1 p.m. in Miner Lounge in the Student Center. Only those who have already registered at langer@ruf.rice.edu can attend. Lunch will be provided.
* Need a midweek break off-campus? See Houston's own Aeros play the Phoenix Roadrunners at 7 p.m. at the Summit. Tickets start at $7. For ticket info., call 627-AERO.
THURSDAY, JAN. 23
* The women's rugby team fund-raiser lasts from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Willy's Pub in the Student Center. "Servants" and goods will be on the auction block. Proceeds will help fund the team's trip to the Western Collegiate Championship in Colorado. Free treats, too.
* Come and see the women's basketball team play the University of Utah Utes. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at Autry Court.
* As part of the lecture series on "Ethics, Politics and Society," Thomas Scanlon, chair of the Philosophy Department and Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy and Civil Polity at Harvard University, will speak. All faculty and students are encouraged to attend this lecture.
