"PARADISE ROAD"

Schindler's List
, but
Paradise
Road
is still an intense and provocative film about World War II internment
camps. In this case, Japanese soliders run the camp. The prisoners are
English, Dutch, American and Australian women and children.
Glenn Close stars as the woman who unifies the prisoners with a "vocal
orchestra," proving that there are still things that the Japanese cannot steal
from them. The film also stars Julianna Margulies and Frances McDormand.

"ELLEN"
You'll be kicking yourself for a year if you miss this week's special
hour-long episode of "Ellen." Next Wednesday night, like real-life Ellen
DeGeneres, her character will realize that she is gay. The special episode
guest stars Oprah Winfrey, Laura Dern, k.d. lang and Steve Eckholdt and will
feature cameos by Demi Moore, Billy Bob Thornton, Dwight Yoakam and Melissa
Etheridge.

NEXT SUNDAY
"KANYA"
Next Sunday, the South Asian Society presents "Kanya," a multimedia
presentation that incorporates poetry, imagery, music and dance. Musicians and
dancers from India will accompany artist Jothi Raghavan as he celebrates women
through a production inspired by ancient and modern composers and poets.
