The 34th Annual Rice Student Exhibition is currently on display in the Rice
Media Center.
The exhibition features the work of more than 20 student photographers whose
60+ photographs are divided among 38 discrete exhibits.
The show, which has been running since May, is a multi-level exhibition that
has no dominant theme or subject.
The show's only continuity comes from the fact that all the photographs were
produced by Rice students enrolled in Rice photography classes.
The featured photographers range in skill from novice to expert, and their work
includes black & white, still nature prints and time-delayed, action color
photographs.
Eric Zapata (Lovett '96), a returning photography student, had good overall
impressions of the show.
"It is one of the strongest shows in the past few years," Zapata said. "The
prints are really good. [However,] there is not a lot of meaning or thought
behind the prints -- they are for the most part image-driven."
The gallery is located on the first and second floors of the Rice Media Center
(directly across the street from Campus Police Station) and is open Monday
through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show runs through the end of
September.
