NEWS IN BRIEF: Former secretaries of state to dedicate Baker Hall

Houston Mayor Bob Lanier will join former U.S. secretaries of state James A.
Baker III, Warren Cristopher and Cyrus Vance and Rice officials in dedicating
the James A. Baker III Building on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
Dedication ceremonies of the $16.5 million facility will take place on the
front steps of Baker Hall, new home of the Baker Institute for Public Policy.
Thursday morning the Baker Institute will begin its annual conference at 9 a.m.
in Autry Court. Baker, Christopher, Vance and former secretary of state Henry
Kissinger will make presentations, which will be followed by a panel discussion
moderated by CNN's Bernard Shaw on "The Foreign Policy Priorities of the United
States on the Eve of the Twenty-first Century." At noon the presentation of the
Baker Institute's Enron Prize for Distinguished Public Service will commence,
followed by remarks from this year's recipient, former Soviet Premier Mikhail
Gorbachev.
