Emanuel gains yards for Falcons
|
by Kathleen Corr
Like Bert Emanuel (Wiess, '94), some athletes are not
content with excelling in just one sport. When he graduated, varsity baseball
and football athlete Emanuel was a draft choice of major league baseball's
Pittsburgh Pirates. However, Emanuel opted to accept an NFL offer made by the
Atlanta Falcons as a second-round draft choice.
In his first season as a professional wide receiver, Emanuel's 46 receptions
were the second-most ever for a rookie. In 1995, he broke the 1,000-yard mark,
and as of Oct. 11, he had 25 receptions for 250 yards in the 1997 season.
At Rice, Emanuel was named an All-American and nominated to the All-SWC team
twice. Emanuel also received the George Martin Award for the most valuable
player.
