Pub using new vinyl wristbands

Willy's Pub has replaced paper wristbands with more durable plastic ones in an effort to curb underage drinking at the Pub.
"We're trying to make it as easy as possible for our bartenders to enforce the alcohol policy on Thursday night," Pub Manager and Hanszen College senior Mike Hauenstein said.
Hauenstein said the paper wristbands, intended to identify those 21 years and older, were ineffective because they could be taken off and given to underage students. According to Hauenstein, students also brought wristbands intended for registered parties at the residential colleges to the Pub.
"We're just trying to avoid trouble because [the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission] didn't come at all last year, so we know they're going to come this year," Hauenstein said.
The increased expense of the wristbands will not result in higher prices at the Pub. "The wristbands are the only way we're increasing our overhead at this point," Hauenstein said.
The Campus Police, who supply wristbands to most registered parties, will continue to buy paper wristbands.
Pub employees are also now marking an 'X' on both hands of underage Pub visitors. In the past, only one hand was marked. Hauenstein said the new policy is to prevent underage people from simply holding an alcoholic drink in their unmarked hand.
