Rice soccer may be the youngest Owl team on campus, having taken the field for the first time in 2001, but it has quickly grown into one of the most respected programs in the region and across the nation.
The fledgling program went from having no field, no uniforms and no players on the roster, to a conference championship and two NCAA tournament appearances in just five years. Rice University, with its academic curriculum and location in a dynamic city that has near-ideal weather for playing soccer year-round, has been a perfect fit for elite student-athletes from across the nation and around the globe. The soccer program launched like a rocket and has been reaching higher and higher ever since. The University has always been a respected leader academically, and now it has a varsity soccer program to match.
