Chip Off the Old Block

Rice University computer engineers have created a way to design integrated circuits that contain many individual selves. The chips can assume different identities, depending on the user’s needs.

The new method enables programmers to strategically reconfigure application-specific integrated circuits while preserving advantages such as speed and low power.
