Feathers in Their Caps
It’s been another banner year for student scholarships. In fact, in the past 10 years, Rice students have won 52 Fulbrights, 17 Watsons, 12 Goldwaters, 11 Mellons, four Marshalls, three Rhodes, three Trumans, two Churchills, and two of the very rare Luce scholarships.

Rocky Cuba Picture Show
Twelve hundred miles might seem like a long distance to travel for a field trip, but the Rice students who took the Department of Earth Science’s eight-day trip to Cuba in January were particularly pleased.

A Family Affair
When Mary Garrett watched her daughter, Beth, receive a diploma from Rice May 11, Mary wasn’t sitting on the quadrangle with other family members—she was literally following in Beth’s footsteps. Believed to be the first mother and daughter to graduate from Rice on the same day, Mary and Beth Garrett spent the past two years as roommates.
