Conclusion

The divide between the two cultures described by C. P. Snow—science and technology on the one hand and the humanities and social sciences on the other—is being bridged very effectively at Rice. We frequently have been innovators in fostering cooperative ventures among disparate disciplines and with other institutions. The growth that Rice has seen over the past two decades in the humanities and social sciences not only provides greater balance but has fostered an explosion in interdisciplinary teaching and research that bodes well for Rice students and the world generally.
