Academic All-American Eddie Deggerman led the Owl baseball squad to the Conference USA regular season and tournament championships, NCAA Regional and Super Regional victories, and a College World Series (CWS) appearance, the fifth in 10 years for Rice. With a final record of 57–13, the Owls finished the regular season as the consensus No. 1 team in all the polls.
