IT Procedure for Oracle Calendar System

Oracle Calendar is a central calendar, time management and meeting scheduling system which has been licensed for all Rice faculty, staff, and students. Many departments on campus are using this free service to help them schedule meetings, manage conference rooms, and maintain tasks lists. The following information about this service is provided so that those using the service may better understand its use and operations. Information on getting and using the Calendar service can be found at:

https://docs.rice.edu/confluence/display/ITTUT/Calendar

  1. Rice IT will take the calendar service off line every Saturday from 1:00 a.m. until 4:00 a.m. to ensure that the service is maintained in an operational status.
  2. While Rice IT maintains backups of the backup server and service itself, due to limitations in the software, it is impractical to restore the calendar for a specific person if an event has been deleted. Rice IT can not restore individual user events at this time.
  3. The calendar service is operated as an important business application for the campus.
  4. Data stored in the Calendar that is older than 5 years will be deleted on an annual basis. Archives of older data may be extracted using the client software.
  5. The calendar should not be used as an historical archive regarding meeting members because this information will change over time as people are removed from the system.
  6. Personal accounts and related data are purged from the calendar database when a person leaves Rice; this means that their name disappears from any meetings to which they were invited during their time at Rice.
