Oracle Calendar and new Daylight Saving Time Dates

The new Daylight Saving Time (DST) takes affect in 2007. Oracle Calendar was upgraded on December 26, 2006 to include the new dates. However, March and November events and meetings scheduled in Oracle Calendar prior to the upgrade may not be reflected accurately at this point. Check your calendar for meetings during the last three weeks of March and the first week of November to make sure the times are accurate. Additional DST details can be found online: http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/b.html

Owl-Space upgraded

Sakai, the open-source system that powers Owl-Space, was upgraded during the break. Open Source Portfolio is a new suite of tools bundled into Owl-Space and designed to work in concert for portfolio-based assessment. Using OSP, individuals, groups and departments/units can collect items, reflect, design portfolios, and publish them to designated audiences. Group awareness was also extended to Resources, Assignments, and Schedule; anything added or uploaded to these sections can be sent to a group of students instead of to the whole class. A new text editor was also added for some of the tools. Details on these new features can be found online in Owl-Space: http://owlspace.rice.edu/newtools_222.html

Clean Access Upgrade required for new network login

All undergraduate students and some Rice employees have been migrated to the new Rice network. Each computer that attempts to reach Rice resources through the new network is required to pass a security scan by Clean Access. The Clean Access tool was installed when your computer first attempted to contact the new network last fall. Periodic upgrades to Clean Access are necessary if the new network is to remain secure; the first upgrade is required in January 2007. A prompt guides you through the process when you attempt to access the new network. For assistance, contact the Help Desk: http://helpdesk.rice.edu or 713-348-HELP (4357).
