IT Campus Update: 17 November 2006

NEW IT WEB SITE(s): Go live November 20

On November 20, 2006 (Monday of Thanksgiving week), the current IT web site will be updated with new graphic and navigation designs. The update will take place from 8:00 a.m. until noon; the pages at www.rice.edu/it/ will be under construction and unavailable during those hours.

The new sites have been designed with customer input and feedback, and will provide an easier way to locate online IT information. Preview the sites in their concept state at: http://www.rice.edu/computing-concept-site/welcome.shtml

ORACLE WEBCAL: Upgrade November 21

The web interface for Oracle Calendar, also referred to as WebCal, will be upgraded on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2006, at 7:30 a.m. This update only affects WebCal (accessing your calendar through the web); the desktop version of Calendar is not affected.

STORAGE: Planned outage for maintenance November 26

The new storage system --utilized by Rice undergraduates and by Rice employees and graduate students who have migrated to the new network—will receive hardware and software upgrades to address some operating system changes and performance improvements.

A 2-hour outage on Sunday morning from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. is scheduled in order to modify the hardware. This will occur on November 26, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

During the 2-hour outage, personal and shared directories and files on storage.rice.edu will be unavailable. In addition, Owl-Space, Sakai, Sharepoint, Exchange Email and uPortal applications will be unavailable.

Contact the Help Desk at 713-348-HELP (4357) if you are unable to access your personal or shared storage files after the hardware upgrade.
