IT Campus Update: 20 March 2007

Microsoft Vista - please hold

Microsoft's new operating system (OS)--Vista--has been available for six weeks, but many non-Microsoft applications remain incompatible with the new OS. The IT Help Desk recommends Rice faculty, staff, and students continue to install Windows XP and then upgrade to the new OS only when the most popular software applications have released Vista-compatible versions. Read additional details online in the Rice IT Vista Announcement: http://www.rice.edu/market/guidelines/windows/VistaAnnouncement.html

Network migrations continue

Computer migrations to the new network continue in offices, classrooms, and labs across campus. Undergraduate students were migrated to the new network in Fall 2006. Find the current status for your building on the network web site: http://www.rice.edu/ricenet/buildings.php
