IT Campus Update: 28 November 2006
ORACLE CALENDAR: Upgrade during winter break
The personal calendar used by many Rice employees and students, Oracle Calendar, will be upgraded December 26-30 (during the winter break). During these dates, the calendar will only be available for viewing (no changes can be made).
As part of the annual maintenance, accounts that are no longer in use will be deleted from the system. In addition, entries older than 15 months (dates prior to September 2005) will also be deleted from all current accounts.
Rice employees and students who refer back to old
entries are encouraged to back up or export this
data, or print a hard copy prior to leaving for
winter break. The University of Maryland's Office
of IT offers excellent online instructions for
exporting calendar items:

CALLING MEXICO: Changes in cell phone number dialing, rates
Mexico recently initiated changes in dialing rates and patterns for cell phones in that country. For calls made to a Mexican cell phone from a Rice campus telephone, the charges will be billed to the Rice telephone number when they are received from the extending carrier in Mexico. Expect previous rates to double or triple. The dialing pattern change is more straightforward: simply add a “1” after the country code (52). Dial 011+52+1 and then the ten-digit cell phone number.
