The IT department, in conjunction with Fondren Library, sponsored monthly brown bag events to present and share with faculty, staff and graduate students, technologies deployed by Rice or emerging technologies that would be applicable to teaching and learning environments.  Surveys were distributed among participants in February, March and April of 2007.  A total of 28 surveys were returned for analysis.  Of the respondents 46% were faculty members, 43% staff and 11% graduate students.

When asked if they used multimedia content to teach, 16.7% to 33% of the respondents said they use multimedia to teach.  In only one case was there strong disagreement with this statement.

However, all of the participants that teach said they plan to increase the use of technology in future classes by using additional multimedia, course management of collaboration tools. In all surveys, the majority of participants strongly felt that the use of multimedia makes their classes more interesting and informative (75% to 88.8%) and none of them disagreed with this statement.  Participants also stated that multimedia tools help them achieve course objectives with all, but one respondent, agreeing or strongly agreeing to this statement.

Those who attended the sessions observed that the teaching with technology brown bag events had helped them consider new ways of using multimedia tools for teaching.  Again, only one participant strongly disagreed with this statement.  The overall feeling of the participants was that these sessions make them feel more confident in the use of multimedia tools, with 67% to 78.9% agreeing to strongly agreeing with this statement.
