Page: Cover | Discussion Questions | 1-3 | 4-10 | Positions and Actions | Glossary | References

Discussion Questions

1. What are the techniques for preserving wetlands in urban areas?

2. Are urban wetlands of enough importance to limit landowners' use of property? Should landowners be compensated for limitation, and if so, how?

3. Is mitigation an appropriate and effective means of preserving wetlands?

4. Are current wetland regulations and the administration of these in Oregon and Lane County sufficient for adequate protection of the resource? Are there ways to make administration and enforcement more effective?

5. Would you like to see the wetlands study continue next year? If so, what do you think should be the scope of that study? More depth on topics discussed this year? Reach consensus for action on local projects? Other information on wetlands issues?

Note: The LWVLC wishes to express appreciation to all who assisted us in this study, with special thanks to Steve Gordon and Tim Bingham of the Lane Council of Governments and Deborah Evans, Eugene Public Works Engineering, Wetlands and Stormwater Project coordinator, for meeting with the committee and providing advice and resources.
