The yoga club conducts two main activities: weekly yoga sessions and occasional Art of Living courses at Rice University. Besides this, we also conduct special yoga sessions (such as during study break), and organize talks on yoga.
Weekly yoga sessions
are held on Sundays, from 4:00 to 5:20pm. The
sessions focus mainly on body postures (asanas), including
warm-ups, dynamic flow of postures such as the Sun salutation (see
external links to sun salutation: [1], [2]),
static postures, and relaxation. Occasionally we also have meditation
sessions.
Feel free to join us during the yoga sessions, and experience
the relaxing and rejuvanating effects of yoga postures! The
weekly yoga is free to all (whether or not you are
affiliated to Rice).
Before coming to a weekly yoga session conducted by the club,
please remember to bring a yoga mat/ towel to do yoga on. A few
other recommendations:
Art of Living courses:
The yoga club also hosts Art of Living courses on a regular basis.
This workshop is an experiential seminar of yogic techniques and self-awareness, with main focus on the breath.
An invaluable aspect of the course, the Sudarshan Kriya is a simple yet powerful breathing
exercise that
de-stresses and detoxifies the body and mind, bringing harmony
across all levels of our being. The effects of the techniqes taught
in this course are immediate and tangible. Numerous people have reported healing
effects, at both physical and mental levels, after practising these
techniques.
The schedule of Art of Living courses at Rice will be posted in this website.
