The following is the heart rate data from the Buffalo Springs 1/2 Ironman distance triathlon ( 1.2 miles swim / 56 mile bike / 13.1 mile run). The data was collected using a Polar Vantage XL heart rate monitor and is from a 35 yr. old male triathlete. It is provided for educational purposes only and is not, in any fashion, considered model or ideal. All heart rate data from training and racing are relevant only to the individual and comparisons should not be made against other athletes.
Total time was 4hr. 47 minutes.
The data is most useful when comparing other races done by the same individual. For example, the average heart rate for an Ironman distance race is lower than for a half-Ironman. This is expected. Similarly, the average heart rate for a 1k/30/5k race is higher. Obviously, one can race at a higher percentage of maximum VO2 during a shorter race.
